Here is a fabulous crinoid. This is Lyriocrinus sp. from the Rochester Shale of New York. This crinoid is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fantastic detail. A long, articulated stem is tightly attached to the cup. The bowl-shaped cup is composed of large plates that are quite smooth. The arms of the crinoid are absolutely exquisite. They are totally intact all the way to the very tips - which is extremely unusual. They are wonderfully articulated and curve inward at the top in a very aesthetic manner. The fossil has nice color and contrast. It is beautifully centered on the somewhat rounded plate of matrix that also contains several brachiopods. This is the finest example of this crinoid that we have seen.
