Here is a wonderful example of an early Flexible crinoid. This is Ichthyocrinus laevis from the Silurian of New York. This somewhat inflated crinoid is unusually complete. All of the arms are beautifully preserved and complete to the very tips which are curled inward at the top. This crinoid exhibits excellent detail - the plate structure of the crinoid is clearly defined. A section of stem is still tightly attached to the crinoid. The crinoid has nice color and contrast. It is well positioned on a large plate of matrix that also contains many brachiopod remains and a trilobite pygidium. This is an extremely fine specimen of this Flexible crinoid from the Rochester Shale.
