Here is a very uncommon crinoid. This is Barycrinus spurius from the Mississippian of Indiana. This type of crinoid has a very sizeable cup composed of large, protuberant plates. It has long, stout, uniserial arms with short ramules. These features are wonderfully displayed on this specimen. The arms are all unusually complete to the very tips. A section of the articulated stem is still tightly attached to the cup. This extremely 3-dimensional crinoid has good color and contrast. It is nicely positioned on the natural, semi-rectangular plate of matrix. This is a great example of this unusual species of Barycrinus from Crawfordsville.
