Here is a nice multiple specimen of crinoids from the Fraileys Formation of Illinois. This location has been closed to collecting for a number of years. This specimen was recently acquired from a major crinoid collection. There are three crinoids on the plate. An unidentified crinoid is on the left side of the slab. This crinoid has a small, cone-shaped cup with thick, branching, uniserial arms. The other two crinoids are great examples of Pentaramicrinus. These crinoids have a very shallow, bowl-shaped cup and stout, uniserial arms. All of the crinoids are quite 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The plate structure of the echinoderms is extremely well defined. The white coloration of the crinoids contrasts nicely with the yellowish matrix. The crinoids are well positioned on the rectangular matrix plate that contains several bryozoan specimens. This is a fine specimen of Mississippian crinoids from a now-closed collecting site in Illinois.
