This is a gorgeous specimen that we recently obtained from a major crinoid collection. It is an extremely 3-dimensional example of Euonychocrinus simplex from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. The quarry where this crinoid was found has been filled with water and closed to collecting for many years. Many "experts" agree that this site produced the finest Pennsylvanian crinoids in the world. When collecting was allowed, this was a very difficult crinoid to find - and hardly ever with long stem attached, such as this specimen. This Flexible crinoid exhibits fantastic detail - the plate structure is very clearly defined. The stout arms are all intact and curve inward at the top. One of the arms is extended high above the others, almost as if it was uncoiling or unfurling at the time of death. This is an extremely displayable specimen of this rare crinoid from a closed location.
