Here is a spectacular crinoid. This is Scytalocrinus disparilis from the Mississippian of Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup and long, thin, uniserial arms. This specimen exhibits these features in wonderful fashion. The arms are preserved in the ''splayed'' position and display the fine pinnules beautifully. An extremely long (over 10 inches) stem is tightly attached to the crinoid! The 3-dimensional crinoid has great color and contrast and is well centered on the large, unbroken, rectangular plate of siltstone. This is an extremely displayable example of Scytalocrinus disparilis from Crawfordsville.
