This is a very striking crinoid plate from the Mississippian of Indiana. In the center of the slab is a beautiful example of Parascytalocrinus hamiltonensis. This inadunate crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup and very stout, uniserial arms. This 3-dimensional specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The plate structure is easily seen and the arms display the tiny pinnules in fine fashion. A short section of the pentagonal stem is still tightly attached to the cup. On the left side of the Parascytalocrinus is a Macrocrinus mundulus calyx with partial arms. A long section of a large crinoid stem is positioned on the right side of the Parascytalocrinus. The fossils have great color and contrast and are well positioned on the rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a great specimen of Parascytalocrinus that just happens to have a Macrocrinus on the same piece.
