This is an absolutely stunning crinoid. It is a large Gilbertsocrinus dispanus from the Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This unusual type of camerate crinoid has five, long, multi-branching appendages emanating from the tegmen that recurve wonderfully over the spiked cup. All of the appendages are present on this terrific specimen and beautifully displayed. Many of the tiny, uniserial arms, with fine pinnules, are easily seen. And have we mentioned the stem? The lengthy stem is still tightly attached to the cup and aesthetically curves toward the bottom of the plate. This very 3-dimensional crinoid has superb color and contrast and is well centered on the somewhat rounded plate of siltstone. This is one of the most detailed specimens we have ever seen of this crinoid. It is a very displayable example of one of the most collectible crinoids from Crawfordsville.
