Here is a gorgeous crinoid that we recently obtained from a major collection. This rare ''sea lily'' is from the Ordovician layers near Cincinnati, Ohio. This crinoid has a cone-shaped cup and multi-branching, uniserial arms. This specimen is quite inflated and exhibits fantastic detail. The plate structure of the cup is easily seen and the slender arms are beautifully showcased in the ''splayed'' position. An extremely long, pentagonal stem is still tightly attached to the cup of the crinoid. The cream-colored crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the gray matrix. The fossil is extremely well centered on the somewhat rectangular plate of limestone. This is one of the most aesthetic crinoids we have seen from the Ordovician of Ohio.
