Here is an extremely aesthetic plate of Ordovician crinoids. These are Glyptocrinus decadactylus from Kentucky. There are three totally inflated examples of this crinoid on the plate. These camerate crinoids have a large, urn-shaped cup with extremely stellate plates. The long, thin, uniserial arms are wonderfully splayed (over four inches across) and the many fine pinnules are beautifully displayed. One of the crinoids has a lengthy portion of stem tightly attached to the cup. The cream-colored echinoderms contrast nicely with the gray matrix. They are well positioned on the large, natural plate of shale. There is also a bryozoan colony present on the piece. This is one of the most striking specimens of this crinoid we have ever seen.
