Here is a very interesting plate of fossils from the Rochester Shale of New York. There is a fine example of Lecanocrinus macropetalus near the top of the slab. This primitive Flexible crinoid is somewhat inflated and has clearly defined plate structure. A lengthy portion of the stem is still tightly attached to the cup. A large colony of Dictyonema retiforme, a graptolite, is associated with the crinoid. This graptolite is well preserved as a carbonaceous mat. The fossils have very good color and contrast and are nicely presented on the large, rectangular block of shale that also contains a partial conularia and some bryozoa. This is a very unique plate of different organisms from the Silurian sea.
