This is a very distinct crinoid holdfast associated with other fossils from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found was filled with water and closed to collecting. This large holdfast is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The stem attachment point is easily seen, and the branching ''roots'' are beautifully displayed. There are also other fossils on the plate, including gastropods, brachiopods, etc. The fossils have great color and contrast and are well showcased on the very large, squared block. This is a fabulous display example of a large crinoid holdfast from the Silurian sea floor.
