This is a very complete specimen of the Devonian crinoid, Arthroacantha, from the classic Sylvania, Ohio location. Although this site is famous for its Phacops trilobites, occasionally a crinoid is unearthed. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and is replaced by beautiful golden pyrite. The detail of the arms is excellent, and the plate structure of the cup is nicely intact. But the most obvious feature of this crinoid is the long stem that still has the cirri attached! Very few Arthroacantha have ever been found with these long cirri preserved. The crinoid is beautifully centered on the large block of Silica Shale. This is a fabulous example of this ornate Devonian crinoid with stem and cirri attached.
