This is a very large crinoid holdfast from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water. This distinct holdfast is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The stem attachment point is very easily seen. The long, branching ''roots'' are beautifully displayed. There are also MANY other fossils preserved on the plate - three large gastropods and dozens of brachiopods and crinoid parts. All of these fossils are natural to the plate - they are not composited. The fossils have great color and contrast and are well showcased on the very large, semi-squared plate of limestone. This is a very fine display example of a large crinoid holdfast from the Silurian sea.
