Here is a spectacular crinoid specimen that we recently obtained from an old collection. This plate was collected at least thirty years ago in the Chesterian Beds near Anna, Illinois. There is a faboulous example of Phanocrinus formosus on the slab. This inadunate crinoid has a very shallow cup with stout, uniserial arms. The crinoid is inflated and 3-dimensional, has excellent plate structure preserved, and has an EXTREMELY LONG STEM still intact! There are also TWO corkscrew-shaped bryozoans, Archimedes sp., splayed across the plate. These unusual, corkscrew-shaped bryozoans are only found in the Mississippian of North America! The off-white color of the crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the yellowish matrix that is loaded with other bryozoans. The sea lily is well centered on the large plate of limestone. This is a museum quality specimen of an Upper Mississippian crinoid and bryozoans from a classic, closed collecting site.
