This is a very nice crinoid holdfast from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found was filled with water in 2008. This distinct holdfast is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The stem attachment point is very easily seen. The long, branching ''roots'' are beautifully displayed. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well showcased on the large block of limestone that also contains an infected crinoid stem. This is a very fine example of a large crinoid holdfast from the Silurian sea.
