This is a large crinoid holdfast (root system) on a HUGE plate of limestone. The quarry where this specimen was found was filled with water. This holdfast is well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The central stem is easily seen, and the roots seem to keep branching and branching - the rootlets seem to go on forever, right down to the very tiny tips. The foldfast has very good color and contrast (better than the picture shows) and is well centered on the HUGE, squared matrix block that also contains many other fossils. This is a top quality crinoid holdfast preserved with many other Silurian fossils.
