Here is a very displayable crinoid. This is Dorycrinus missouriensis from the Burlington Formation of Missouri. The Burlington Formation contains more species of crinoids than any other stratigraphic unit in the world - and this crinoid is one of the most highly sought-after types. This kind of crinoid has a wide, flaring base and extremely long spikes arising from the tegmen. This strange camerate crinoid is very 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The spikes are beautifully defined, and the arm attachment points are easily seen. The middle spike has been prepared in a free-standing manner for optimal display. The white crinoid contrasts nicely with the orangish-brown matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the squared plate of limestone. This is a wonderful example of this highly collectible crinoid from the Missouri.
