Here is a wonderful plate of crinoids from LeGrand, Iowa, one of the most famous crinoid sites in the world. This specimen was found in the 1930s and recently obtained from Laudon's collection, then prepared under a microscope. Crinoids from LeGrand are perhaps the most sought-after crinoids in the world, and an interesting feature about the crinoids from this site is that the different species of crinoids are different colors. This plate contains two crinoids - both are Aorocrinus immaturus. These specimens display the MANY pinnulated arms typical of the species. The very fine pinnulation of the arms is quite evident, and both of the crinoids still have some stem attached. The crinoids are very 3-dimensionally preserved and have great natural color and contrast. This is a top quality pair of crinoids from this classic location that is worthy of any collection.
