This is a fabulous crinoid plate from the Mississippian of Indiana. On the left side of the plate is a beautiful Decadocrinus tumidulus. This type of crinoid is known for the strange shape of its arms - the arms look like jaws with teeth in them! This 3-dimensional specimen exhibits spectacular detail and an extremely long stem. On the right side of the plate is a fine Barycrinus hoveyi. This unusual crinoid has a bowl-shaped cup and very stout, branching arms. A long stem is still tightly attached to the cup. Both fossils have great color and contrast and are naturally positioned on the squared plate of siltstone. This is a top quality specimen of Decadocrinus with a nice Barycrinus hoveyi preserved together on the same piece.
