This is a classic fossil crinoid. It is an Encrinus from Germany. This specimen is Triassic in age, which is very unusual- most of Europe experienced desert conditions during the Triassic. This type of crinoid is an Inadunate crinoid and has 10 stout, biserial arms. This specimen has a complete crown and part of the stem preserved. The arms and plates are very well preserved. The crinoid is well positioned on a large plate of limestone matrix. This is a very displayable example of this unusual European crinoid.
