Here is a very attractive crinoid. This is Agaricocrinus splendens from the Mississippian of Indiana. This ancient "sea lily" is very 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The large crinoid has extremely long, stout arms that are biserial in nature. This specimen displays the arms in beautiful fashion. The crinoid also has an extremely long stem that curves aesthetically. The fossil has outstanding color - the brown crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the light grey matrix. The crinoid is well centered on the large, rectangular plate of siltstone that also contains a nice Platyceras gastropod on the lower left corner. This is a very complete example of Agaricocrinus from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
