Here is a very interesting fossil. It is a large crinoid holdfast from the Silurian of Indiana. The original quarry is now filled with water . This holdfast is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The stem attachment point is easily seen, and the branching pattern of the ''rootlets'' is clearly defined. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is well showcased on the natural plate of shale that also contains a nice crinoid and other unusual fossils. This is a distinct example of a crinoid holdfast and other fossils from the Waldron Shale.
