Here is a very rare Devonian crinoid. This is Decadocrinus hughwingi from the Silica Shale of Sylvania, Ohio. This crinoid is so rare, it was only described in 1964! This type of inadunate crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup composed of highly sculpted plates and long, uniserial arms that branch only once. This specimen exhibits these characteristics in fine fashion. This crinoid usually is preserved with the arms broken off short or sometimes entirely missing. Not this example! This 3-dimensional specimen has the long arms wonderfully intact and displays the short, stout pinnules of the arms beautifully. A section of the pentagonal stem is still tightly attached to the cup. The crinoid has great color and contrast and is well showcased on the somewhat rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a great example of this extremely scarce species of Decadocrinus from the classic Sylvania, Ohio locality.

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
