This is a very distinct crinoid. It is a fine Macrocrinus mundulus crinoid from the famous Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of Camerate crinoid has a large cup composed of many plates and biserial arms that contain many pinnules. This specimen is well articulated and exhibits fine detail. The plate structure of the cup is quite evident, and the arms are beautifully displayed. A LONG section of the articulated stem is still tightly attached to the cup of the crinoid. The sea lily has good natural color and contrast and is well centered on the rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a very nice example of a classic crinoid from Crawfordsville.
