Here is a superb example of a rare crinoid. This is a spectacular example of Abrotocrinus new species from the Mississippian of Indiana. This fossil crinoid is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The plate structure of this inadunate crinoid is beautifully defined, and the finely-pinnulated , uniserial arms have been prepared in high relief. A long section of the stem is still attached. But the defining feature of this crinoid is the long spikes protruding from the top of the anal tube - these distinct spines are beautifully displayed in 3-dimensional fashion. The creamish-colored fossil contrasts nicely with the yellow-brown matrix. The sea lily is almost perfectly centered on the natural plate of siltstone. This is a very rare, but aesthetic crinoid from the famous site of Crawfordsville, Indiana.
