This is a beautifully preserved pair of free-swimming, stemless crinoids from the Cretaceous of Hajoula, Lebanon. These crinoids used to be called Pterocoma, but are now classified as Antedon pinnulata. Examples of crinoids from the Cenomanian (95 million year old) deposits of Lebanon are quite uncommon, and fossils in general from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest, especially recently. The crinoids have excellent detail preserved (hard to see in photo). The fish (Hemisaurida), too, is well displayed. The fossils are beautifully showcased on the large plate of Sublithographic Limestone. This is a rare and collectible grouping of fossils from the Middle East.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
