Here is a very pretty crinoid. This is Contocrinus coupi from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. This specimen was found at least 25 years ago and was recently obtained from an old collection. The location where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This inadunate crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup and stout, uniserial arms. The fine pinnules of the arms are beautifully displayed and just a touch of stem is still tightly attached to the cup. This crinoid has been extracted from the matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. Both sides of the crinoid are very ''clean and crisp''. This is an excellent example of Contocrinus from the famous Pennsylvanian beds near Pontiac, Illinois.
