This is an uncommon crinoid that we recently obtained from a major echinoderm collector. It is an Onychocrinus exculptus from the famous Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of crinoid has a multi-plated base with five stout arms that branch only once near the tips. The arms of this crinoid have tiny ramules that aided in the food-gathering process. This Flexible crinoid is wonderfully preserved in the ''starburst'' position. All five arms are unusually complete and beautifully displayed. The crinoid is very 3-dimensional, and the plate structure is clearly defined. The cream-colored crinoid contrasts well with the tannish-yellow matrix. The sea lily is well centered on the natural plate of siltstone. This is a gorgeous example of Onychocrinus exculptus from Indiana.
