Here is a very interesting fossil. It is a crinoid holdfast from the Silurian of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This holdfast is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail - the five-point, star-shaped stem attachment point is easily seen and beautifully displayed. The branching pattern of the many ''rootlets'' is clearly defined. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is well centered on the natural plate of shale that also contains many other fossils. This is a highly displayable example of a crinoid holdfast from the Waldron Shale.
