Here is one of the most prolific crinoid plates from Gilmore City, Iowa we have ever seen. This classic location has been closed to collecting for a number of years, ever since some drunken fool drove his car over the wall of the quarry. The plate has EIGHTEEN crinoids preserved (Eretmocrinus tentor, Dichocrinus multiplex, Aorocrinus iola, Circidocrinus fimbria, and a few Unidentified Crinoids). The Gilmore City fauna is usually split into two zones - the zone with the large crinoids, and the zone with the smaller ones. This plate is very rare in that there are both large AND small crinoids together on the plate! One of the large crinoids (left side) has an EXTREMELY LONG anal tube preserved - we do not know what could have caused this. All of the crinoids are well displayed, with LONG stems present on many of the crinoids. The fossil sea lillies have nice color and contrast and are naturally positioned on the VERY LARGE plate of limestone. This is easily one of the most interesting multiple plates ever found at this historic crinoid locality.
