Here is a very interesting fossil. It is a large crinoid holdfast from the Silurian of Indiana. The original quarry is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This holdfast is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The stem attachment point is easily seen, and the branching pattern of the ''rootlets'' is clearly defined. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is well showcased on the natural plate of shale that also contains other unusual crinoid fossils. This is a distinct example of a crinoid holdfast from the Waldron Shale.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
