Here is a very pretty crinoid. This is Actinocrinites gibsoni from the Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This specimen was recently acquired from the famous DeRosear Collection. This type of crinoid has a large cup composed of heavy, stellate plates and long, branching, biserial arms with fine pinnulation. This large camerate crinoid is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits superb detail. The plate structure is easily seen, and the arms are unusually well displayed. The splayed arms show the pinules in wonderful fashion. The cream-colored crinoid contrasts nicely with the grey matrix. The sea lily is well showcased on the tombstone-shaped plate of siltstone. This is a very aesthetic example of Actinocrinites from the Edwardsville Formation.

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
