This is a very displayable crinoid holdfast associated with other fossils from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This large holdfast is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The stem attachment point is easily seen, and the branching ''roots'' are beautifully displayed. There are also other fossils on the plate. An unidentified brachiopod, several crinoid stems, and a distinct bryozoan are also on the slab. All of these fossils are natural to the plate - they are not composited. The fossils have great color and contrast and are well centered on the semi-rectangular plate. This is a fabulous example of a large crinoid holdfast from the Silurian sea.
