This is a nice pair of crinoids from the Mississippian of Indiana. On the left side of the slab is a very inflated example of Agaricocrinus splendens. This type of crinoid has heavy, biserial, and beautifully pinnulated arms. The plate structure of this echinoderm is very impressive, and the arms are wonderfully showcased. The crinoid on the right is Parascytalocrinus hamiltonensis. This inadunate crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup and very stout, uniserial arms. This 3-dimensional specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The arms display the tiny pinnules in fine fashion. The fossils have great color and contrast and are nicely showcased on the square plate of siltstone. And best of all, they are totally natural to the plate - they have not been composited. This is a very attractive double crinoid specimen from the Edwardsville Formation.
