Here is a gorgeous plate of crinoids from the Mississippian beds of Crawfordsville, Indiana. There are four crinoids on the plate, and three are different types. To the left of the slab is a fine specimen of Platycrinites saffordi. This 3-dimensional crinoid has very fine detail preserved. In the center of the plate are two great examples of Onychocrinus ulrichi. The top specimen has been prepared totally free of matrix - the arms extend high into the air! The crinoid on the right is a textbook example of Parascytalocrinus validus. This crinoid has a long stem and no flaws whatsoever! These fossil echinoderms have wonderful, natural color and contrast very nicely with the grey matrix. There has been no compositing done to this spectacular plate - no crinoids have been added or moved. This is an excellent array of crinoids from the famous Crawfordsville, Indiana area.
