Here is a fine specimen of an unusual crinoid. This is a large Hylodecrinus sculptus from the Mississippian deposits of Indiana. This type of crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup with deeply invaginated plates and long, uniserial arms that branch several times. This crinoid is quite inflated and exhibits wonderful detail. The individual plates of the crinoid are clearly defined, and arms are very easily seen. A LONG section of pentagonal stem is still tightly attached to the cup of the crinoid. The fossil has great color and contrast and is nicely presented on the block of siltstone. This is a nice example of this rare Crawfordsville crinoid.

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
