Here is an unusual multiple plate of crinoids from the Mississippian beds of Crawfordsville, Indiana. There are three different crinoids on the plate. On the left are two specimens of Macrocrinus mundulus. This camerate crinoid has a large, multi-plated cup with unbranching, biserial arms. Both of these crinoids have lengthy stemms attached. In the center is a large Platycrinites saffordi. This ancient sea lily has a gastropod attached to the calyx - this is quite unusual. To the right of the Platycrinites is a very distinct Cyathocrinites sp. This inadunate crinoid has a cup comprised of large, stellate plates. The uniserial arms of this crinoid branch many, many times. These fossil echinoderms have nice, natural color and contrast well with the grey matrix. The fossils are nicely spaced on the rectangular block of siltstone. This is an interesting multiple plate of crinoids from the famous Crawfordsville, Indiana area.
