Here is a very unusual crinoid. This is Abrotocrinus sp. from the Mississippian of Indiana. This type of crinoid has a shallow, bowl-shaped cup with long, branching uniserial arms. This 3-dimensional specimen has excellent plate structure, and the long arms display the pinnules in fine fashion - the arms are unusually complete down to the tiny tips. The fossil has great color and contrast and is unusually preserved sitting right on top of a crinoid root! This is a very fine example of Abrotocrinus and a crinoid root from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
