Here is a very unusual crinoid from LeGrand, Iowa, one of the most famous crinoid sites in the world. This specimen was found in the 1930s and recently obtained from a major crinoid collection. Crinoids from LeGrand are perhaps the most sought-after crinoids in the world, because of its history. This specimen exhibits great detail - the very fine pinnulation of the arms is quite evident, and the unique plate structure of the cup is easily seen. But the facinating feature of this crinoid is that it lifts out of its limestone base - fully free of matrix! The crinoid has been ''popped out'' of its matrix block, and has been prepared on both sides! Even the fragile stem is still attached! This is a very collectible crinoid from this classic location that can be displayed loose or in its natural matrix base in which it was entombed for hundreds of millions of years.
