This is a very complete example of a very rare crinoid. It is a HUGE specimen of Megistocrinus sp. from the Devonian of Iowa. This type of crinoid is so rare in this formation that just a complete calyx is a collectible find! But this specimen also has the LONG, multi-branching arms beautifully displayed and the LONG stem still attached - WOW! The off-white color of the crinoid contrasts well with the dark grey matrix plate. This HUGE sea lily is wonderfully showcased on the rectangular plate of limestone. This is a spectacular example of this extremely rare crinoid from Iowa. This is easily one of the best examples of this crinoid ever found in this locality.
