Here is a fine specimen of one of the most sought-after types of crinoids. This is Dorycrinus gouldi from the famous crinoid beds of Crawfordsville, Indiana. This particular camerate crinoid has a large, bulbous-plated cup and somewhat slender, biserial arms. However, the distinctive feature of this crinoid is the spines. This species has many spines emanating from the tegmen - the long spines are wonderfully intact and easily seen on this specimen. This large crinoid is well preserved and extremely 3-dimensional. The plate structure of the robust cup is quite distinct. The sea lily has been prepared in high relief so that it stands well above the surface of the matrix. The fossil has exceptional color and contrasts beautifully with the sculpted matrix block. This is a very fine specimen of this highly collectible ''spiny'' crinoid.
