Here is a very attractive crinoid. This is Agaricocrinus splendens from the Mississippian of Indiana. This ancient "sea lily" is very 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The large crinoid has extremely long, stout arms that are biserial in nature. This specimen displays the arms in beautiful fashion - they are uncommonly complete to the very tips and exhibit beautiful pinnulation. The crinoid also has an extremely long stem that aesthetically curves around the crown. The fossil has outstanding color - the brown crinoid contrasts wonderfully with the yellowish matrix. The crinoid is nicely positioned on the large, rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a very complete example of Agaricocrinus from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
