This is a huge specimen of Cactocrinus obesus from the Lower Burlington Formation of Missouri. Most of the time, only the cup of this type is found. This specimen also preserves the part of the tegmen. The crinoid exhibits great detail - the calyx is so ornate it almost looks like a pinecone or a pineapple! The crinoid is extremely inflated and almost perfectly centered on a rectangular block of limestone. The white crinoid contrasts extremely well with the orangish-brown matrix. The plate also exhibits fragments of other echinoderms. This is a wonderful specimen of this distinct species of Cactocrinus.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
