Here is a very detailed crinoid and blastoid association piece. This specimen is from the Mississippian of Missouri. On the right side of the plate is a large example of Uperocrinus pyriformis, a camerate crinoid. This type of crinoid has a long, smooth-plated cup and a high tegmen composed of protuberant plates. A superb example of Globoblastus norwoodi, a blastoid, is on the left side of the slab. This melon-shaped blastoid exposes the spiracles in nice fashion. Both echinoderms are extremely inflated and exhibit extraordinary detail. The plate structure of the echinoderms is wonderfully defined. The whitish color of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the orange-brown matrix. The echinoderms are well showcased on the large plate of crinoidal limestone. This is a very distinct specimen of two different echinoderms on the same plate.
