Here is an attractive plate of echinoderms from the Mississippian of Missouri. On the upper right side of the plate is a very good example of Uperocrinus aequibrachiatus. This type of crinoid has a wide cup composed of large, smooth plates, and a tegmen made up of small, slightly protuberant plates. A large specimen of Schizoblastus sayi is on the right side of the slab. This extremely robust blastoid has an invaginated base and very thin ambulacra. Both echinoderms are 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibit fine detail. The off-white color of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the orangish-brown matrix. The fossils are well positioned on the plate of limestone that contains many other crinoid fragments. This is a very nice association plate of two different echinoderms.
