Here are two different crinoids from the Mississippian of Iowa. On the left side of the slab is the distinct crinoid, Physetocrinus ventricosus. The plate structure is easily seen on this specimen. On the right side is Strotocrinus glyptus, a classic umbrella-topped crinoid. Both crinoids are extremely 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The fossils have excellent white color and contrast nicely with the orange-brown matrix. The crinoids are well positioned on the rectangular block of limestone that is just littered with crinoid fragments. This is a very nice specimen of two unusual crinoids from the Upper Burlington Formation.
