Here is a gorgeous plate of crinoids from the Mississippian beds of Crawfordsville, Indiana. There are four crinoids on the plate, and three are a different type. At the top of the slab is a fine specimen of Camptocrinus myelodactylus. This unusual camerate crinoid is always found curled and the crown obscured with fine cirri. Below the Camptocrinus are two examples of Agaricocrinus splendens. The specimen in the center is not especially nice, but the one on the left is spectacular. This sea lily shows incredible detail - the stout, biserial arms are complete with pinnules. The classic triangular shape is still intact, and a LONG stem is tightly attached to the crown. The crinoid at the bottom of the plate is Macrocrinus mundulus. This camerate crinoid has a large, multi-plated cup with unbranching, biserial arms. The arms are almost all complete to the very tips, and the long anal tube extends high above the arms. These fossil echinoderms have wonderful, natural color and contrast very nicely with the grey matrix. There has been no compositing done to this spectacular plate - no crinoids have been added or moved. They are beautifully positioned on the rectangular block of siltstone. This is an excellent display of crinoids from the famous Crawfordsville, Indiana area.
