Here is an unusual crinoid that we recently acquired from a major collection. It is a wonderful Eucalyptocrinus crassus from the Silurian of Indiana. The site where this specimen was found is now closed to collecting. This inflated crinoid has excellent detail - the plate structure of the cup is just exquisite and the arms are beautifully displayed, which is quite unusual. There is also a small section of stem still attached. The dark brown color of the fossil contrasts beautifully with the grey matrix. The crinoid is nicely showcased on the natural plate of shale. This is a very well-articulated specimen of Eucalyptocrinites crassus from the Waldron Shale.
