This is a very nice association of Devonian fossils. There is a fine crinoid, Arthroacantha carpenteri, and a large brachiopod, Paraspirifer bownockeri, on the plate. These fossils are from the classic Devonian site at Sylvania, Ohio, famous for the Phacops trilobites found there. Both fossils were found on this natural piece of matrix - they have not been composited. The crinoid crown exhibits excellent detail. The plate structure of the cup is well defined. The branching arms display the fine pinnules. The brachiopod is very 3-D and robust. The fossils are well positioned on the semi-rectangular plate of shale. There are also many small brachiopods and some crinoid fragments scattered about the plate. These fossils are replaced by iron pyrite, or ''fool's gold'', making for a striking display. This is a very aesthetic specimen of a crinoid in association with a large brachiopod and many other fossils.
